While many of us are making our travel plans for Thanksgiving there are others in our communities who are wondering if they will be able to provide their family with a meal this Thanksgiving holiday. While thousands of individuals and families in our communities are struggling with hunger every day, Food Lion recognizes there is something we can do to help.
So when NFL Player Phil Taylor asked to partner with Food Lion Feeds to help donate Thanksgiving dinners for 200 local families, Food Lion and its local store team responded.
"This provides Food Lion the opportunity to say 'thank you' for allowing us to be an integral part of the Richmond community," said store manager Marcus Watson.
The donations were given to families who are currently served by Lamb's Basket food pantry, and who are at risk of hunger during the holiday season. Food Lion Feeds worked with the agency and FeedMore Food Bank to pre-select the families for Tuesday's event.
Food Lion provided each family with a reusable grocery bag filled with a holiday meal including turkey, vegetables, cornbread stuffing and rice.
"We remain deeply appreciative of Food Lion's generous support of our agencies and the clients they serve," said Kevin Rudnick, FeedMore corporate relations manager.
But these bags were filled with much more than food. They helped make sure residents in the Richmond area did not have to make tough choices this holiday season, like buying groceries or paying rent.
