Food Lion Feeds to Honor Local Soup Kitchens

Grocer to Help Feed Over 1,000 Hungry Neighbors This Valentine's Day Week

This Valentine's Day week, Food Lion Feeds will show the love to select soup kitchens doing outstanding work for their communities by recognizing them as a "Souper Star Kitchen." As part of the recognition, Food Lion associates will donate soup and other food items, as well as help prepare and serve meals for hungry families. In addition, volunteers and staff at the feeding agency will receive a special token of appreciation from the grocer.

Local soup kitchens to be honored as a "Souper Star Kitchen" include:

Feb. 13 – Montmorenci United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen – Asheville, N.C.
The Montmorenci United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen in Asheville, N.C., serves on average between 100 to 150 individuals facing hunger one night every week. Food Lion associates will donate food for a dinner service, and prepare and serve the meal. 

Feb. 14 – St. Paul AME Zion Soup Kitchen – Salisbury, Md.
St. Paul AME Zion soup kitchen in Salisbury, Md., serves on average between 30 to 40 individuals every day. Food Lion associates will donate food for a lunch service, and prepare and serve the meal. 

Feb. 14 – Rescue Mission Ministries Soup Kitchen – Roanoke, Va.
Rescue Mission Ministries soup kitchen in Roanoke, Va., serves three meals per day to an average of 200 individuals every day. Food Lion associates will donate food for a lunch service, and prepare and serve the meal. 

Feb. 16 – Rowan Helping Ministries Soup Kitchen – Salisbury, N.C.
Rowan Helping Ministries' soup kitchen, named Jeannie's Kitchen, serves three meals a day to an average of 400 to 450 individuals every day. Food Lion associates will donate food for a lunch service, and prepare and serve the meal. 

Feb. 17 – Bread of Life Outreach Soup Kitchen – Naoma, W.Va.
The Bread of Life Outreach soup kitchen in Naoma, W.Va., serves an average of 200 individuals every week. Food Lion associates will donate food for a lunch service, and prepare and serve the meal. 

Feb. 17 – Samaritan Ministry Soup Kitchen – Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Samaritan Ministry soup kitchen in Winston-Salem, N.C., serves lunch to anywhere between 300 to 400 individuals every day. Food Lion associates will donate food for a lunch service, and help prepare and serve the meal.

This weeklong effort will feed more than 1,000 individuals fighting hunger and provide more than 1,000 pounds of food to these feeding agencies. Food Lion Feeds is proud to recognize these partners as a "Souper Star Kitchen" and continuing to work with them to help feed families in need.

Through Food Lion Feeds, the company has made a commitment to provide 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020. Since the launch of Food Lion Feeds in 2014, the grocer has already donated more than 250 million meals through in-store campaigns, in-store food rescue programs and associate volunteerism.
