SALISBURY, N.C. - Food Lion will celebrate the grand opening of its newest store, located at 9146 Cleveland Road in Clayton, N.C., on October 19. Beginning when the store opens at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Food Lion will distribute $10 gift cards to the first 100 customers each morning through Saturday, October 22.

In addition, coinciding with the grand opening and Food Lion's continued commitment to Clayton and the surrounding area, the grocer will donate $500 each, or the equivalent of 5,500 meals, to the food pantries located at West Johnston High School and Lighthouse Christian Fellowship.

"Food Lion has been a proud member of the Clayton community for more than 25 years and we look forward to creating an easier shopping experience for our customers," said Randy Deschaine, Director of Operations for Food Lion, including the Clayton area. "We have listened to our customers in this market and we look forward to bringing an expanded assortment of quality, fresh products to our customers, while keeping the low prices they expect from Food Lion. On behalf of our 75 associates at this store, we want to thank our customers and the entire community for your patience during the new store construction as we bring our new and improved shopping experience to this additional location in Clayton. We look forward to welcoming you to our new store."

The new store will open to the public at 8 a.m. on October 19 following a ribbon-cutting ceremony where several local dignitaries will be on hand for the grand opening.

Featuring Food Lion's newest format, the new store is easier to navigate so customers can get in and out more quickly. It also features a walk-in produce cooler that keeps produce fresher, longer. Additional features of the new store include:

  • A new assortment of products with an abundant selection of fresh meat and produce backed by Food Lion's promise of 100 percent fresh or double-your-money-back guarantee

  • A dedicated gluten-free section

  • A growing selection of Nature's Place beef, pork and poultry items free from unwanted ingredients

In addition to its donation to the two food pantries, Food Lion will provide gift baskets of fresh products and gift cards to show appreciation to those who work tirelessly to serve the Clayton community, including the Cleveland Fire Department, Clayton Police Department, Clayton Area EMS, Polenta Elementary School, Cleveland Elementary School, and C3 Church.

Food Lion's new Clayton store will be open daily from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
