    Delhaize Group (NYSE: DEG; Euronext Brussels: DELB), the Belgian international food retailer, reported today an increase of cash earnings per outstanding share by a strong 36.9% to EUR 1.00 in the third quarter of 2001. Delhaize Group's sales rose by 22.2% to EUR 5.5 billion, and its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 38.0% to EUR 414.3 million. The EBITDA margin of Delhaize Group rose to 7.6%

    All Kash n' Karry stores will partner with their shoppers to help the hungry by participating in the Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger Campaign (FICAH) Oct. 28, 2001, through Jan. 5, 2002.

    During the campaign, Kash n' Karry will place tear-off coupons in the amounts of $1, $3 and $5 at every cash register. Shoppers will be able to tear off a coupon and hand it to the cashier to be scanned and added their grocery bill.

    More than 1,300 Food Lion and Kash n' Karry stores in 11 states are already serving as collection points for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

    Customers can make donations of $1, $3 or $5 using scanable coupons at check out. Canisters are also being distributed to all locations, so customers will be able to make contributions in any denomination.

    Delhaize Group (Euronext Brussels: DELB, NYSE: DEG), the Belgian international food retailer, reported today an increase of cash earnings per outstanding share by a strong 15.4% to EUR 1.07 in the second quarter of 2001. Delhaize Group's sales rose by 39.8% to EUR 5.5 billion, and its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 53.7% to EUR 412.7 million.

    Kash n' Karry and Food Lion have asked the manufacturer of their private label 11 oz. white corn chips to start an investigation after the Food and Drug Administration found traces of a genetically-altered strain of corn called Starlink in the product made by Wise Foods Inc.
