    Food Lion is cooperating with ConAgra in its voluntary recall of ground beef. ConAgra Beef Company, based in Greeley, Colo., is recalling approximately 19 million pounds of beef trim and fresh and frozen ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

    Food Lion announces three executive promotions key to its ever-growing retail store operations.

    Elwyn Murray and Cindy Schlaepfer have been named senior vice presidents of retail operations. Darrell Johnson has been elevated to senior vice president of human resources.

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Food Lion an Energy Star® "Partner of the Year" for its outstanding energy use management and pollution prevention efforts throughout its organization.     Kash n' Karry Food Stores, based in Tampa, Fla., is recalling packages of its in-store baked chocolate croissants because they may contain undeclared pecans. People who have allergies to pecans could run the risk of a serious allergic reaction if they consume this product.

    The recalled chocolate croissants were sold in Kash n' Karry supermarkets throughout Central Florida. The product is located in the bakery section of Kash n' Karry

    Delhaize Group (NYSE: DEG; Euronext Brussels: DELB), the Belgian international food retailer, reported today an increase of cash earnings per outstanding share by a strong 36.9% to EUR 1.00 in the third quarter of 2001. Delhaize Group's sales rose by 22.2% to EUR 5.5 billion, and its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 38.0% to EUR 414.3 million. The EBITDA margin of Delhaize Group rose to 7.6%

    All Kash n' Karry stores will partner with their shoppers to help the hungry by participating in the Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger Campaign (FICAH) Oct. 28, 2001, through Jan. 5, 2002.

    During the campaign, Kash n' Karry will place tear-off coupons in the amounts of $1, $3 and $5 at every cash register. Shoppers will be able to tear off a coupon and hand it to the cashier to be scanned and added their grocery bill.
