On Dec. 6, Food Lion and Ibotta presented a $5,000 check to Morganton, N.C., resident Kelly Tyson at her local Food Lion store on East Fleming Drive. Kelly was the winner of the “Magical Family Getaway” Sweepstakes, which celebrated Food Lion’s launch on the Ibotta app and customers’ new ability to “get paid to shop.”
"I was definitely surprised when I won,” Tyson said upon receiving her check. “I'm actually going to use the money toward bills and a car that needs to be fixed. It's money we needed, so it's great!"
Ibotta is an app that enables Food Lion customers to earn cash rewards for completing tasks such as reading a recipe or purchasing certain items. When a customer earns rewards in the app, they are automatically applied to their MVP Card to redeem in-store. Food Lion shoppers and Ibotta users who connected their Food Lion MVP Card on the Ibotta app between Oct. 9 and Nov. 9 were automatically entered into the contest for a chance to win $5,000.
Tysons’s sister Kathy Branch, husband Doug Tyson, and parents Sam and Linda Wilkinson were in attendance as she claimed her prize. The check was presented by Store Manager Ashley Benton and Ibotta representative Gregory Mann.
