For further information: Erin DeWaters (firstname.lastname@example.org; 704-310-2858)On September 12, Food Lion Feeds teamed up with Hope For The Warriors® to donate 5,200 meals of fresh produce and shelf stable items to 200 veterans and their families struggling with hunger in the local community as part of Food Lion’s inaugural Week of Service, Sept. 11 – 18.
“Sometimes you can’t afford a lot of groceries, so it helps out,” a donation recipient told WITN-TV, which was on hand to cover the donation. “We are having a baby soon, so this will definitely help out, especially when she’s here.”
Associates from local Food Lion Store 1494 were on hand at the donation and delivered bags of shelf stable and fresh produce to active duty military and veterans who came through the line in their cars. Repeatedly, associates asked recipients to stay in their cars and let them do the work as a small thank you for the recipients’ selfless service to our country.
Recognizing that many people are forced to make tough decisions to provide for their families, Food Lion launched Food Lion Feeds in June with a commitment to provide 500 million meals by the end of 2020 to those in its local communities struggling with hunger. The donation in Jacksonville supports that ongoing commitment.
