On the morning of Tuesday, September 21, 2106, Food Lion Associates arrived early eager to transform the Burlington Food Pantry in Knoxville, Tenn., into a facility that would bet better equipped to serve its Knoxville, Tenn., residents.
Joining forces with pantry volunteers, the associates painted, cleaned, moved equipment and stocked shelves at the Pantry, all part of the grocer's month-long "The Great Pantry Makeover" initiative to support Feeding America's Hunger Action Month.
"The makeover will help us serve more people, and is an awesome blessing," said Linda Allmon, Burlington Food Pantry director. "It brings smiles to our faces and makes the working environment much more enjoyable."
By the end of the event and after much hard work, the once dusty, cluttered rooms sparkled and the empty shelves were filled with Food Lion products.
"I feel honored and blessed to work at the pantry today, said Roger Scarborough, Food Lion store manager, who volunteers here regularly. "It is a gracious feeling to work for a company that cares about feeding members of the community."
