Before the Food Lion Feeds team stepped in, South Hall Community Food Pantry had never experienced such gifts.
"These three gifts of infrastructure, food and labor have never been donated to the pantry before this Food Lion pantry makeover, said Mike Robertson, Chairman of the Board for South Hall Community Food Pantry. "All of this helps to make the pantry more efficient and enjoyable!"
The "makeover," which took place on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, provided the pantry, located in Oakwood, Ga., with a new air conditioning unit, electrical upgrades and a freezer.
Food Lion associates also unloaded pallets of perishable and non-perishable food, stocked the shelves and cleaned the pantry space. When Dustin Vanmeter, Food Lion associate, was asked how he it felt to work for a company that gives back to the community, he reflected on his personal experience with a local food pantry growing up.
"I remember a time when my family had to use the services of the local food pantry, Vanmeter said. "It feels great to work for a company that allows me the opportunity to give back."
The newly-cleaned pantry with shelves packed to the brim will be a delight to the clients when the pantry opens on Thursday.
