Food Lion, along with Winston-Salem's NBC TV station WXII, tipped off the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) basketball tournaments today with a food drive at Food Lion's store in High Point, NC.
The event featured ACC mascots and Food Lion's Leo the Lion to help get the community in the spirit for the upcoming ACC tournament, while continuing Food Lion Feeds' mission to give back to the communities we serve.
The food drive raised 1,000 pounds of food and $1,474 through donations from members of the community, which will allow the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C., to provide more than 11,000 meals to neighbors in need.
"This was an exciting event with Food Lion and the ACC; it brought a lot of awareness to the issue of hunger in our communities," said Chuck Harmon, Food Drive/Retail Donor Relations Manager at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C. "Our core partners, Food Lion and WXII, walk the walk as being part of the food insecurity solution."
