As part of their annual meeting today in Greensboro, North Carolina Chamber members from across the state participated in a food drive today to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. In addition to the non-perishable items donated by Chamber members, Food Lion donated $1,000 to the Food Bank for the purchase of fresh and more non-perishable items through its Food Lion Feeds effort to eliminate hunger in our communities. Including food items and monetary donations, the food drive donated over 12,600 meals for needy Northwest NC residents.
The North Carolina Chamber is the state’s largest business advocacy organization.
Troy Leshko, Division Vice President for Food Lion's Mid-Atlantic region and a board member of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, presented the check to Clyde Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Northwest NC.
After the presentation, Leshko said "I know firsthand how important this food will be to the clients who serve those who are hungry. Food Lion believes no one should have to choose between dinner and paying rent or gasoline and buying groceries, and through our commitment of donating 500 million meals by 2020, we're working to eliminate those tough choices."
