When it comes to summer, there's always something to look forward to. Whether it's going on vacation, spending the day at the pool or cooking out, the Delaware State Fair is something that Food Lion looks forward to every year.
Food Lion was once again proud to support the state fair through its annual Food Lion Feeds Hunger Relief Day to help raise awareness and donations to support those who are food insecure. Attendees who made a donation of five Food Lion brand products received free admission to the fair on Monday, July 24.
Even the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, dropped off his donation to help support this worthy cause!
Food Lion volunteers partnered with the Food Bank of Delaware volunteers to collect donations and by the end of the day, they ended up collecting 25,526 pounds of Food Lion brand products! That's an increase of over 10,000 pounds from the year before!
"It's incredibly important to have the support of a company like Food Lion," said Chad Robinson, director of strategic initiatives for the Food Bank of Delaware. "Whether its bags for the Stamp Out Hunger postal food drive, Food Lion Feeds Hunger Relief Day at the Delaware State Fair or weekly pick-ups from the retail stores across the state, Food Lion is there every step of the way."
Thanks to the generous donations of the community, the Food Bank of Delaware will be able to help meet the needs of more than 43,000 food-insecure Delawareans served through the food bank's network of hunger relief partners in Kent and Sussex Counties.
