When you work with as many wonderful partners as we do with Food Lion Feeds, you're bound to hear some pretty incredible – and unique – stories.
One of those great stories involves the founding of Robinson Bread Basket food pantry in Charlotte.
Part of Charlotte's Robinson Presbyterian Church, Robinson Bread Basket was founded eight years ago by the pantry's director, Maureen Mohr, after the church pastor challenged parishioners to find a better purpose for what to do with the extra loaves of bread given to churchgoers by a fellow member who worked as a bread delivery man.
From that moment, Robinson Bread Basket was born. The food pantry now serves around 120 families every month from its facility located in a church outbuilding.
While an increasing number of hungry families have walked through Robinson Bread Basket's doors over the past eight years, the pantry facility itself had not changed much over that time.
As a recipient of Food Lion Feeds Great Pantry Makeover, the pantry opened its doors to Food Lion associates today to allow us to repaint the walls, assemble and install new shelving, install a new security system for the building, and perform additional improvements to create a more welcoming environment for agency volunteers and clients, while enabling the pantry to serve more hungry families.
Additionally, Food Lion donated over 11,000 meals to help stock those new shelves and make sure the freshly-renovated facility was full of food.
"We were so surprised to be chosen as one of Food Lion Feeds Great pantry Makeover recipients, and we could not be more grateful for Food Lion's commitment to our pantry and our community, said Mohr.
While Robinson Bread Basket may have started from a few loaves of bread, it's giving that back to the community tenfold.
Mohr added that, "Ending hunger requires great partnerships, and we're so proud to have such a great partner in Food Lion."
We're proud too Maureen, to both stand with great organizations such as Robinson Bread Basket to not only help share their story, but to help achieve their mission as well.
