In Stafford, Va., the fifth annual Band Together to Fight Hunger event takes place every November at Mountain View High School, where four high school bands in Stafford County prepare a one-night concert to raise hunger awareness through meal collecting and donations to the local food bank.
On Nov. 16, Food Lion associates and more than 400 high school students "banded together" to provide Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank more than 25,000 meals.
After the bands played, Food Lion associates met representatives of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank on the field to present a $1,000 check, equivalent to more than 2,000 pounds of food for those in need this holiday season.
"We are so thankful for all Food Lion did to support our event this year," said Karen Bingham, Band Together to Fight Hunger coordinator. "Their continued support is vital to the success of our event and the food bank."
At Food Lion, we believe no one should ever have to make tough choices like deciding between paying rent and buying groceries. We also believe in supporting our students to achieve their goal to end hunger in Stafford.
"Food Lion was very pleased to be able to work with the local Stafford County Schools and students to fight hunger in our community," said Sherry Ritenour, Food Lion director of operations. "Through this partnership we were able to provide meals to families in need and make a difference. We are happy to continue to work within our communities and achieve our mutual goal to end hunger throughout the communities we serve."
Working toward its commitment to provide 500 million meals by the end of 2020, Food Lion Feeds has already donated approximately 114 million meals*
