Food Lion's hunger-relief platform, Food Lion Feeds, donated 81.7 million meals in 2015, surpassing its annual meal donation goal for of 75 million meals by six million! The grocer reached this monumental achievement through product donations, volunteerism and in-store campaigns and has donated 143 million meals since launching Food Lion Feeds in 2014.
“We appreciate the support of our food bank partners who work every day to end hunger in our local communities,” said Christy Phillips-Brown, director of external communications and community relations. “We are also very thankful for the support of our customers and associates who also helped us achieve this goal.”
Food Lion associates donated more than 1 million meals alone through volunteering. Associates gravitated to find new ways to volunteer their time in 2015 by helping to restock food pantries as well as delivering meals to needy families in the communities they live and work in.
"Food Lion is committed to the communities in which we live and work, and through Food Lion Feeds, we want to eliminate the tough choices some of our customers have to make when they are hungry, like buying groceries or paying rent," added Phillips-Brown.
In 2016, Food Lion Feeds has committed to donating 75 million meals towards our 500 million meal goal. Here's to a bigger and brighter year of giving in 2016! We thank our customers, associates and community members for your continued support.
