On Tuesday, Sept. 15, First Zion Missionary Baptist Church Food Pantry Manager April Ghoston greeted the Food Lion Leadership Team with hugs and excitement as they arrived at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church to begin the Great Pantry Makeover in Hilton Head, S.C. After introductions and a brief tour, the team divided into groups and within a few hours the pantry was completely transformed.
One group of Food Lion associates unloaded perishable food items including meatballs and chicken breast into the freezers and refrigerators. While they worked, a second team put together new shelving for the larger pantry area the church recently acquired. A third group helped landscape areas around the church and pantry grounds making the outside space just as nice as the inside!
"This makeover and donation will allow us to serve more families in need," said Ghoston. "The need for food continues to increase in our community. This is such a blessing for our community, and we can't thank Food Lion enough."
This makeover and product donation was part of Food Lion's Great Pantry Makeover event. Continue to follow the Great Pantry Makeover team throughout the month of September, Hunger Action Month, and see which pantries they will be visiting next!
