What a difference a day makes.
On Tuesday, September 20, Rosemarie Glenn, founder of My Refuge Ministries, gave away her last can of vegetables to a family in need. Little did she know what the next day would hold for her, the pantry and its clients.
By Wednesday afternoon, My Refuge's empty shelves were quickly transformed as nearly fifteen Food Lion volunteers unloaded more than 10,000 meals onto the pantry shelves and freezers.
“The Lord is never late," said Glenn. “We will be able to help members of our community more because now we have more food that we can give them.”
As part of Food Lion's Great Pantry Makeover, My Refuge was nominated by the Second Harvest Food Bank in Fayetteville as it is one of the only pantries serving food insecure clients in Lumberton, N.C.
Not only did My Refuge receive a food donation, they were also given new shelving to neatly store non-perishable items in the pantry.
The day was certainly a labor of love as local Food Lion volunteers know and regularly see Glenn in their store. Not only was My Refuge a recipient of The Great Pantry Makeover this year, they were awarded a makeover last year and regularly receive donations through the Food Lion Feeds Food Rescue Program.
There certainly is nothing greater than helping a neighbor.
