Some stories of hope begin in the dark, but when someone sees a need and responds to the call, the story can be brought to light and completely changed. That is the vision and impact of the Stafford Hope Center, and Executive Director for the Stafford Hope Center Mike Hancock understands this notion completely.
"We don't just give out food, clothing and toys," said Hancock. "We go on a journey with our clients, and Food Lion is a part of that journey."
On Friday, Sept. 18, Food Lion associates were able to join in this journey during the Great Pantry Makeover event when they renovated and restocked the food pantry at the Stafford Hope Center in Fredericksburg, Va.
Stafford Hope Center plays an important role in the Fredericksburg community and is known for counseling services, food and supply donations, and of course, providing hope to those in need. When Food Lion heard about what the pantry is doing to improve the lives of those struggling with hunger, they could not wait to help by providing a new refrigerator and freezer, shelving, cabinets and a food product donation.
The donation came a critical time for the Stafford Hope Center. As a result of the Food Lion donation, the food pantry is able to expand their capacity and increase the number of families they are currently serving.
The Stafford Hope Center renovation was made as part of Food Lion's Great Pantry Makeover event. During the month of September, Hunger Action Month, the grocer has committed to renovating and restocking more than 30 pantries in 30 days. Continue following the Great Pantry Makeover Team to see which pantry will be "made over" next!
