Food Lion Feeds' Great Pantry Makeover initiative, a one-of-its-kind community relations effort to upfit and refurbish food pantries to increase their ability to serve the community, was awarded the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) Silver Anvil award recently, the top honor in the public relations industry.
The award was given for the second year of the Great Pantry Makeover, which renovated over 30 food pantries in 30 days across Food Lion's 10 state network. In order to raise awareness of the effort and the important work done by our community partners, Food Lion Feeds' promoted the work on the company's various social media channels, through local media and with our own storytelling on this blog.
Local Food Lion associates did everything from paint to install flooring to building shelving, and restocked each pantry with a full supply of healthy and nutritious food to continue the tremendous work each of these community does for their neighbors in need.
According to the PRSA, the Silver Anvil award is given to select campaigns that exhibit "exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness," and winners are chosen by a panel of judges that are industry professionals. Additional information about the criteria for the award and a full list of this year's winners can be found here.
Since its launch in 2014, Food Lion Feeds has strived to create and support innovative programs and initiatives to help eliminate hunger in the towns and cities we serve, all while striving to meet its goal to donate 500 million meals by 2020 and eliminate the difficult choices families have to make every day.
