Food Lion is responding to our communities affected by Hurricane Irene with its first community donation of free water at two Food Lion locations this evening.

Water Distribution Details:

Store 2110

*Highway 64 and LaKeiser Road, Columbia, N.C.

*Free water available to residents at approximately 6 p.m., while supplies last

Store 1532

*1720 North Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills, N.C.

*Free water available to residents at approximately 6:30 p.m., while supplies last

"Food Lion dispatched trucks carrying approximately 1,200 packages of water at each of these locations to support our communities during this time of need," said Tim Shipman, director of crisis management at Delhaize America. "Over the next several days, we are working in partnership with disaster response agencies to assess other community needs to support the recovery efforts from Hurricane Irene and will respond as soon as possible."

Food Lion remains focused on protecting the safety of its customers and associates, and has reopened the majority of its stores in eastern North Carolina affected by Hurricane Irene.
