Food Lion Feeds Celebrates National Pet Month with Two 1,000-Pound Pet Food Donations and One-Day Local Pet Food Drives
Dateline:
Food Lion Feeds will help its furry friends Saturday, May 20, by donating more than 2,000 pounds of pet food to local food banks and holding a one day pet food drive in two stores in Edenton, N.C., and Greensboro, N.C.
The effort, called Food Lion Feeds Pets Too," is in recognition of National Pet Month. Food Lion made the donations earlier this week to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C. in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Food Bank of Albemarle in Elizabeth City, N.C.
"We are proud to partner with local food pantries in the towns and cities we serve to help feed pets," said Christy Phillips-Brown, director of external communications and community relations at Food Lion. "We know how important pets can be to families and we support our food banks pet services too."
The two in-store food drives will be held Saturday, May 20 at the following locations:
• Food Lion
4653 Market St.
Greensboro, N.C., 27403
• Food Lion
300 Virginia Road
Edenton, N.C., 27932
Food Lion Feeds recognizes that pets are a valued part of many families and that feeding pets can be challenging when putting food on the table is difficult. Our food bank partners across our 10-state footprint recognize the value of pets to the families they serve so many have added pet food to their donation items.
Food Lion Feeds supports these local agencies and their respective communities through local store donations, special hunger-relief events and volunteer activities year-round, and including pet food to these donations is helping to meet the needs of local agencies.
Through Food Lion Feeds, the company has made a commitment to provide 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020. Since the launch of Food Lion Feeds in 2014, the grocer has already donated more than 250 million meals through in-store campaigns, in-store food rescue programs and associate volunteerism.
