Food Lion Feeds has partnered with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the United States Postal Service and food banks in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. to support the 23rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The grocer will help kick off the campaign in these three states on Friday, May 8, with four 10,000-meal donations, including both fresh and non-perishable products, to local feeding agencies in Newark, Del., Waldorf, Md., Richmond, Va., and Roanoke, Va.
"At Food Lion, we're passionate about helping to end hunger in our local communities," said John Garlick, Division Vice President for Food Lion's Northern market. "As a grocer, we know there are families in our communities who are making tough choices to put food on their tables. At Food Lion, we believe no one should have to choose between dinner and paying rent or medicine and buying groceries. That's why we're so passionate about supporting important hunger relief campaigns like Stamp Out Hunger."
In addition, the grocer has also joined forces with the NALC to provide specially-marked Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive grocery bags to 4.3 million residents in these states to help collect the food donations on Saturday, May 9. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive comes at an important time for local food banks and feeding agencies in these states, when demand peaks in the summer months as children are out of school. The food collected from local resident donations during the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia will be donated to local feeding agencies.
Through Food Lion Feeds, the company has committed to provide 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020. Food Lion partners with local food banks and feeding agencies to help raise awareness about the issue of hunger and help end hunger in its local communities.
