Food Lion Feeds is donating more than 5,000 meals to local children today as part of the company's mission to help alleviate hunger in the greater Winston-Salem, N.C., market.

The store will donate 525 reusable bags of non-perishable Food Lion brand product that will be transported by associates to seven local schools in Winston-Salem, N.C., Tobaccoville, N.C., Lewisville, N.C., Pfafftown, N.C., and Clemmons, N.C.,

"We are working to create a better tomorrow by uniting with customers and partners to help eliminate the difficult choices many families are forced to make when they are struggling with hunger," said Dave Bellis, director of operations for the Winston-Salem market. "By providing this food, it will give local kids a chance to focus more on their school work and less about wondering where their next meal will come from."

Each bag will include 13 items such as oatmeal, canned chicken breast, tuna, ravioli, applesauce, canned mixed vegetables, beef stew and more. Associates will deliver the meals starting at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., today to the following schools:

  • Old Richmond Elementary, located on 6315 Tobaccoville Road in Tobaccoville, N.C.
