"A humble leader, I'm lucky to have him as a store manager and to be able to call him my friend."

Food Lion has awarded Tony Allred with its 2015 Central Greensboro Division Store Manager Excellence Award. Allred, who is the store manager of the Food Lion located at 1327 E. Dixie Drive in Asheboro, N.C., accepted the award recently among his peers at the corporate office in Salisbury, N.C.

"I'm very thankful for the accomplishments of my store and what they deliver each day for Food Lion," said Allred. "I'm a long-time associate myself, and I'm just very overwhelmed, very humble and very blessed for the recognition that we've earned."

Additionally to honor Allred, Food Lion, through its Food Lion Feeds hunger relief platform, donated $1,000 in his name to The Salvation Army in Asheboro, N.C. The donation was made because of Allred's leadership and commitment to the community.

Starting as a bagger in 1984, Allred has worked for Food Lion for more than 30 years. Since then he has served in various positions in increasing responsibility, including produce clerk, produce manager and perishable manager. Additionally, in 2007, Tony was selected as fresh manager for Delhaize America's former Bottom Dollar Food banner, where he assisted in opening four North Carolina Bottom Dollar Food locations. In 2011, Allred was promoted to Store Manager, where he later led the conversion back to Food Lion in 2012.

Allred, his wife Debra, and their daughter, Rebekah, live in Asheboro, N.C. A true Food Lion family, Debra just celebrated her 31st year with Food Lion as Rebekah celebrated her first year. Two of his brothers worked for Food Lion for more than 30 years as well. Allred enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time.

"Tony is a great store manager who is always working to develop his associates and support his community," said Scott Libbey, Central Greensboro division vice president for Food Lion. "A humble leader, I'm lucky to have him as a store manager and to be able to call him my friend."

Food Lion’s Store Manager Excellence Awards recognize and honor exceptional Store Managers who enrich the lives of Food Lion customers, associates, and the communities we serve, successfully lead our business, and support and inspire others.
