Palmetto Health Foundation to Celebrate Gift Thursday, May 24

"The commitment of Food Lion and Reid’s has a significant impact on patients and families served by Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital"

Food Lion continues its commitment to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital with a $300,000 pledge announcement this week to name the Family Waiting Room in the Children’s Surgery Center. Palmetto Health Foundation will host a celebration of the gift at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 24 in the Warren Atrium of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital located at 7 Medical Park in Columbia.

“Food Lion is pleased to make this pledge because we know that our waiting room will continue serving as a safe-haven for children and their families needing medical care,” said Bill Garcia, manager of community relations for Food Lion. “The Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital makes a tremendous difference in the lives of families who receive care at the surgery center and we are honored to help.”

The Family Waiting Room is a warm and welcoming place for families of children undergoing surgery in the Children’s Hospital Surgery Center. The Surgery Center was created on the third floor of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital in an effort to make the surgery experience seamless. Children and their parents register and are directed to surgery without having to move through adult surgery areas. The Family Waiting Room is an integral part of the surgery experience because it offers a place of comfort.

“The commitment of Food Lion and Reid’s has a significant impact on patients and families served by Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital,” said Samuel Tenenbaum, president, Palmetto Health Foundation. “Their passion and dedication translate into a very special place for families to feel comforted during their surgery experience.”

Food Lion will raise the $300,000 through its Children’s Miracle Network campaigns over the next five years. Since 1992, Food Lion has raised $886,400 for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.
