Store is Located on Highway 12, which was destroyed by Hurricane Irene
Food Lion has re-opened its store in Avon, N.C., today to serve its customers on the island. The store is located at 41934 N.C. Highway 12.
"We're so proud of the perseverance of our associates in this market who have worked countless hours in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene to reopen our Avon store," said Billy Zyliak, Director of Operations for Food Lion. "The team of associates at this location is truly amazing, and we thank our associates and customers who have been patient with us as we worked around the clock to re-open and serve the community. In addition, we are very appreciative of the support from local emergency management personnel who helped us send much-needed emergency supplies, such as ice, to local residents via ferry over the past several days."
Food Lion's store will open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily, until the local curfew has been lifted and Highway 12 has been fully restored. The company will continue to ship its groceries via ferry until road conditions permit other transportation methods.
The Avon, N.C., store first opened on Monday and had to later close because lightning struck the onsite generator. The company has implemented on-site repairs and products are currently being restocked as quickly as possible.
