Seniors who regularly attend York County Council on Aging will be treated to a farmer’s market style shopping experience featuring at least 10 different produce items. (Note: This event is not open to the general public.)

As part of this promotion in honor of Older Americans Month, Second Harvest and Food Lion will also provide 700 bags of mixed fruit to Cherokee Meals on Wheels and Union County Council on Aging that will be delivered to homebound low-income clients on the home delivered meals programs in those counties.

WHY: There are more than 40,000 seniors at risk of hunger in the 19-country region of North and South Carolina served by Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. This number includes 4,000 seniors in York, Cherokee and Union counties. “Surprise Inside” will honor low-income seniors in recognition of Older Americans Month with fresh produce, an item they need to stay healthy, but can often not afford to purchase.
