NYSE: DEG
As part of the company's "Holidays Without Hunger" campaign this holiday season, Food Lion will surprise 12 food bank partners with a $1,000 donation, or more than 100,000 meals, starting today through Dec. 25.
"Food Lion Feeds is honored to surprise 12 food bank partners in the coming weeks as they work tirelessly to feed families during this time of year," said Christy Phillips-Brown, director of external communications and community relations for Food Lion. "We know the need is so great during the holiday season, and we are committed to helping to provide 'Holidays Without Hunger' in the communities we serve."
The 12 winning food banks will be selected from a random drawing of the company's 30 food bank partners. Food Lion will unveil the donations at Noon each day via @FoodLionNews on Twitter and publish a full list of winners on Dec. 25 at www.foodlion.com/newsroom.
Additionally, Food Lion continues to partner with its customers to help feed their neighbors in need this holiday season. Through this in-store campaign, customers can purchase a specially-marked "Holidays Without Hunger" box for $5, while supplies last, or make a cash donation at checkout. All cash donations benefit the Feeding America® nationwide network of food banks, the largest domestic hunger-relief charity. Food boxes are donated directly to a local hunger-relief food bank, food pantry or meal program. To date, more than five million meals have been raised this holiday season.
Through Food Lion Feeds, the company has committed to provide 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020. Since the launch of Food Lion Feeds in 2014, the grocer has already donated approximately 114 million meals through in-store campaigns, such as "Holidays Without Hunger," in-store food donation programs and associate volunteerism.
