From June 6 through July 8, all Food Lion stores will participate in the
"Hunger Has a Cure" campaign to support local food banks affiliated with
the America's Second Harvest Network. All monetary and food donations
will stay in the communities where given to feed the hungry.
Food Lion customers can support their local food banks and feed the
hungry during the month-long campaign in two ways:
With the start of hurricane season just weeks away, EnergyUnited, the
electric cooperative, and Food Lion have partnered to help ensure
EnergyUnited line crews and other employees are well fed during
Inspired by the legendary Bohemian Highway, that winds through the rural
landscape of Northern California's wine region, Bohemian Highway Wines
are now available at Food Lion. Food Lion is the first grocer to carry
the distinctive wines.
Crafted in a fruit-forward and approachable style, Bohemian Highway is
available in three varietals, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Merlot. Food Lion
stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina
Bloom is blooming in the Washington, D.C. area. Bloom, a different kind
of grocery store, announced that approximately 40 Food Lion stores will
undergo a complete makeover to become Bloom stores this year. The work
begins this spring, and will finish sometime in late fall. Company
officials also announced plans to hire about 2,500 people.
Now through April 30, all 1,215 Food Lion stores are conducting the
"Food Lion for the Children" campaign to raise money for the Children's
Miracle Network (CMN). Food Lion customers can participate by purchasing
paper CMN balloons for $1 each.
For a fifth-consecutive year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) will recognize Food Lion with an ENERGY STAR® partner award.
Food Lion has earned the ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence 2006 Award for
its outstanding and continued leadership in protecting the environment
through energy efficiency and superior energy management. Food Lion will
receive the award at a March 21 ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Now through Feb. 28, all 490 Food Lion stores in North Carolina are
conducting the "Shop & Care" campaign to support Easter Seals-United
Cerebral Palsy of North Carolina. Food Lion customers can participate
simply by looking for and purchasing products marked with special Shop &
Care shelf tags.
Food Lion LLC, and the Food Lion Charitable Foundation Inc., raised and
donated approximately $9.05 million to non-profit organizations in 2005.
