Food Lion LLC today announced plans to remodel its Washington, D.C.-area
stores. Through its remodeling program, the company will introduce two
new store banners-Bloom and Bottom Dollar-to the region.
In all, Food Lion LLC will remodel approximately 60 stores in the
Washington region before the end of 2006. The geographic spread of these
stores includes Fredericksburg, Manassas, Fairfax, Leesburg, Chantilly
and Spotsylvania, Va.; and
More than 400 Food Lion stores now offer Bertagni fresh filled pastas
from Italy. Located in Food Lion's deli-bakery department, Bertagni
fresh pastas contain no artificial flavorings or colorings and are
filled with only fresh ingredients. Through an exclusive agreement, Food
Lion is the first U.S. grocer to offer Bertagni fresh filled pastas.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency joined with Food Lion today to
recognize Food Lion's 400th store to earn the rigorous and prestigious
ENERGY STAR® designation for superior energy performance and management.
The ENERGY STAR label indicates Food Lion's 400 stores are some of the
most energy-efficient retail facilities in the United States. Food Lion
has far more ENERGY STAR stores than any other U.S. grocery retailer.
Food Lion is unveiling fresh makeovers at stores in Maryland and
Delaware on Oct. 5.
Food Lion has remodeled 63 stores in Maryland and Delaware. In addition
to unveiling the stores' new interior design, Food Lion is kicking off a
new promotional campaign called, "Food Lion's Fresh Makeover
Two North-Carolina- based retailers, Food Lion and Rack Room Shoes, have
partnered to send much needed drinking water to hurricane-ravaged
Mississippi. Food Lion donated a truckload of water, while Rack Room
Shoes supplied the tractor-trailer and driver.
The bottled water reached McGee, Miss., late last week. The Mississippi
Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) has set up a relief center in McGee.
MEMA will distribute the donated water
Food Lion is sending truckloads of water, food and needed supplies to
relief centers serving Hurricane Katrina victims.
Two Food Lion truckloads of drinking water, food and supplies left the
Food Lion corporate headquarters this morning, bound for the Convoy of
Hope Relief Center in Slidell, La. More than 200 Food Lion employees
came out and cheered the truck drivers as they left around 9:15 a.m. for
the 12-hour trip to Slidell.
