Food Lion Customers Awarded Scholarships at CIAA Tournament 2011

Ryan Gatewood of Blacksburg, Va., is the Grand Prize winner of a $20,000 scholarship, which was presented during halftime of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Championship game in Charlotte, N.C., onMarch 5.

Gatewood was one of 12 finalists who participated in the Food Lion - Sprite® Scholarship Sweepstakes, an in-store promotion held in January, earning finalists a VIP trip to the CIAA Tournament and a chance to win up to $35,000 in CIAA Scholarships. Food Lion and Sprite® hosted the finalists during the CIAA tournament weekend and invited all 12 to the playing floor for the winner announcement.

The First Prize winner of a $10,000 scholarship was Sheila Womble of Charlotte, N.C. The $5,000 scholarship Second Prize winner was Bill Hahn of Newport News, Va. There were also two winners of $500 and $250 Food Lion gift cards. The $500 gift card winner was Montina Leeof Goose Creek, S.C., and the $250 gift card winner was Sue Giles of Linden, N.C.
