Food Lion to Donate $9,000 to Feed Local Families

Food Lion is donating $5,000 of its store-brand food products and a $4,000 monetary donation to Harvest Hope Food Bank to feed Greater Greenville area families at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 14 at Harvest Hope’s facility at 2818 White Horse Road.
“Food Lion is a strong community partner and is dedicated to assisting hunger relief and nutrition education programs in the communities we serve,” said Maria Quant-Young, community relations supervisor for Food Lion. “Participating in the food distribution event in Greenville, S.C., is another great opportunity for us to give back to our customers.”
The monetary donation comes from the Food Lion Charitable Foundation. Established in 2001, the Food Lion Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
“Harvest Hope could not fulfill its mission to feed the hungry in Greenville and Laurens counties without the great partnership we share with a committed community partner like Food Lion,” said Harvest Hope CEO Denise Holland. “This combined monetary and food donation will give us the means to provide more than 41,000 meals to struggling Upstate families.”
The food donation, valued at $5,000, includes a variety of non-perishables such as the following:
- Cereal
- Peanut butter
- Canned mixed vegetables
- Canned corn
- Pasta sauce
- Fruit cocktail
- Canned ham
- Tuna
- Canned Salmon
- Rice
- Canned green beans
- Canned sweet peas
